Persona 3: FES Vs. Persona 4
by Relayer71
So I got my new copy of Persona 4 this week (thank you Gamervision!) and I started to play last night and was completely blown away.
Only played for about an hour or so but already it is radiating GREATNESS! The few characters I've been introduced to are very likable, the music is great, the art style while similar to Persona 3's is even more refined and the interface and even the title screen scream POLISH ("polish", not "Polish").
Here's the thing: I got P3: FES when it came out last year and put in about 25 hours (only played it a couple of times a week in short spurts, but loved every minute) but I would start playing newer games, restarting older ones, and also playing PC RPGs which can be pretty time consuming (gaming can be a full time job!).
Then Warhammer: Online came out. Enough said!
Anyway, I swore to myself I would finish P3 before even opening up P4 but I couldn't help myself and now I'm wondering if I should finish up P3 OR just continue playing P4 and play P3 after.
They're standalone stories so no continuity which is good.
But will I spoil myself with P4 (nearly ALL the reviews mentioned that as excellent as P3 was, P4 is even better, with small improvements & tweaks that added up even if the basic gameplay was still similar)?
I was already loving P3 but I feel maybe I should start over anyway since I've played it sporadically and can do so after P4.
Decisions, decisions!!!!!

Since you're already into Persona 4, just keep going. Yes, it is an improvement over Persona 3--but keep in mind that Persona 3 was also an excellent game with few flaws, so it will still be great to play. I plan on going back and playing FES later this year, too.
Glad you're loving it!
Sold! :)
Unrelated but I also feel like kicking myself for getting rid of my copy of the 1st game, Persona: Revelations :( I remember enjoying it at the time but never finished it (my PS died that year, 2000 I believe so it left FF IX and Chrono Cross which came out that year also unfinished) - and think I traded it in for some Gamecube game later on. Stupid me!
And now I've seen it on Ebay for like over $80.
I enjoyed Playing Persona 3 when it came out last year and now I myself am playing Persona 4. Persona 4 is a definite improvement from the last one, but don't kick yourself about not finishing up a game. As long as it's there to enjoy, that's all that matters.
As a matter of fact, when me and my friends get together and share about our gaming world we laugh and make jokes at each other about games that we either didn't start or finish.
A good example, When I got Fallout 3, I totally neglected my other games and When I finally beat it I looked back at a pile of games that were collecting dust. So, man I have a lot of catching up to do.
So all in all, just enjoy P4 because you can always go back to play P3.
The Persona series is DAMN good. Although, I do like Persona 3 much more than 4 due to the story and characters. Of course, Persona4 does have a few little touch ups to the overall gameplay and system.
I also like the color blue much more than yellow, :P
Anyway, I'm glad more people have gotten into the series the past few years.
Played P4 some more today and I'm hooked so I will just replay P3 from the beginning some other time.
So far the characters seem a lot more fleshed out than those in P3 and I love the murder mystery theme.
I'm likin' the Megaten love here! 3
Well, to be frank, there are some links between P3 and P4 in the storyline, but they're very minor ;)
