Midway, "We Make Crappy Games Because of the Wii Shortage."

Logical People, "Then Why Did You Always Make Mediocre Games?"

by riverrun

Its not us, its Wii...

Midway has decided to pass the buck on the fact that the last string of games it has made have been mediocre, to say the least.

"The demand for Wii product has put a pretty big strain on Nintendo's production capacity, and that has in turn, for us, turned into longer lead times for some of our Wii products," commented Iribarren. -Source

In other words, the reason that Mortal Combat sucked on every system was because the Wii wasn't in stock.

The good news is they apparently have resolved their PS3 woes and can now focus on bringing its Xbox360 ports - erm, I mean original IPs to Sony's console on time.

You may remember Midway from such acts as putting Unreal Tournament III on its homepage as if it has anything to do with it and making the highly successful "Bee Game" which tried to piggyback on a movie starring Jerry Seinfeld as a bee.

God bless the game industry.

You are showing your youth on this one. You must be young to not know that at one time Midway was awesome. Titles like Area 51, Cruis'n USA, Gauntlet, Hydro Thunder, the original Mortal Kombat, NBA Jam, Rampage, Smash TV. Pretty much everything they did in the arcades was great. It's the move to home consoles that killed them. So, they haven't always made mediocre games.

You are showing your ignorance, Soul. If you really think that the same people who made Area 51 or Smash TV are still at Midway you are sadly mistaken. Company loyalty from developers is so damn low they are likely working for a dozen developers by now.
