Activision Trademarks Sing Hero, Exploitation Imminent

Even Though Guitar Hero Already Has Vocals

by Sarah

I know it’s not terribly professional of me to talk shit on Activision, but they make it so easy, I just can’t help myself. So what’s new in the House of Bobby Kotick? Well, they have trademarked a new game in their [Insert Musical Tool Here] Hero franchise, and it’s called Sing Hero. Now, nothing’s been announced by the company, but pretty much anyone would deduce that Activision is working on a new vocal game, I assume in the tradition of SingStar and Lips. Even though Guitar Hero now has vocals in it. I guess this is for those people who only want to sing, and can’t be bothered by those pesky instruments.

My question is, does this count as one of the many Guitar Hero games and spinoffs that are supposed to come out this year and next, or is this something else entirely? Do you feel that there’s a need for an Activision singing game? I’m envisioning the start of a whole new franchise, with installments for the DS and iPhone out by 2010. Then of course we have the inevitable Guitar Hero/Sing Hero crossover. It would basically be Guitar Hero: World Tour, but with a prettier microphone. Pure speculation, folks! That’s what I have to resort to until Activision officially announces this game.

Can't you play Guitar Hero and just not use the instruments? Like only sing? Isn't that already a thing?

This is terrible. I'm sure it will sell a crap-load of copies, but why would somebody want another version of Sing Star or Karaoke Revolution in their collection? Oh, wait, I know... BECAUSE IT'S REDONKULOUS!

    First: Guitar Hero
    Second: DJ Hero
    Now: Sing Hero
    Later: Drum Hero
Much later: BAND HERO will revolutionize rythm games by combining all of them in a never-before-seen concept!

Look forward to it in February of 2010. The expansion is already set for April 2010. And Groupie Hero will be out in June of 2010.
