Assassin's Creed Brotherhood Getting Pricey Collector's Edition

Color Me Surprised

by Sarah

Assassin's Creed and Assassin's Creed II both shipped with standard (and boring) retail releases, and pricier (but way cooler) Collector's Editions. Because of this, it should come as absolutely no surprise that the next game in the series, Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, will also tempt your wallet and common sense with a $99.99 Collector's Edition. Ubisoft officially announced the Collector's Edition today, and as you can see in the photo above, it comes loaded with goodies, both in-game and out.

While most retailers will come with the Doctor Jack-in-the-Box, GameStop will have exclusive rights to the Harlequin Jack-in-the-Box seen in the second picture, which I think I like a little better. Other features are detailed below:

  • The Harlequin Jack-in-the-Box Collectible (exclusive to GameStop customers only) or The Doctor Jack-in-the-Box Collectible (available at all other participating retailers)
  • Two Exclusive In-Game Single Player Maps
  • Hard Copy Strategy Map of Rome
  • Exclusive Art Book
  • Bonus Disc
  • Exclusive Making-of Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood Video
  • Digital Sneak Peak at the Assassin’s Creed Comic
  • Trailers
  • Game Soundtrack

This is going to be a problem, because I'm a sucker for Collector's Editions, and the combination of cool shit to put on display in my house and additional gameplay content might be too hard to resist. A hundred bucks is a lot of money though. What say you, internet? Worth it or too much?

I appreciate the thoughtful and creative approach towards yet another "limited collector's edition," although it fails to beckon that amount of hard-earned cash from the inside of my wallet, however, it may for hardcore fans of the series. Another example, the Halo Reach Legendary Edition, may not be worth its steep $150 price tag either, but considering Amazon's $20 credit coupled with an uber-unique packaging/design and its additional content (such as the inclusion of the Todd McFarlane hand-crafted set of figurines) -- it has easily become a Halo fanboy's proverbial wet dream. Point being, these days developers need to 'up the anty' and get a bit more creative lest they hope to garner the attention and liquid support from the large demographic of scrupulous, fringe gamers.
