Atlus Wants Next-Gen Programmers
Is a 360/PS3 Shin Megami Tensei Game Possible?
by Sarah

I don’t think it’s a stretch to say that Persona 3 and Persona 4 were two of the best PS2 games of this generation. That’s partially because the PS2 is a last-gen system, though Atlus developers haven’t been willing to let it go just yet. As awesome as Persona 4 and the recent Devil Summoner 2 were, many fans of Atlus games—particularly those in the Shin Megami Tensei series—have hoped to see the next title in this franchise make the jump to the PS3 or 360. This may be something Atlus is considering as well, because their internal development studio is now looking for PS3 and 360 programmers. According to Siliconera, Atlus is looking for those who are interested in game development (obviously) and have worked on a role-playing game for the PS3 or 360 in the past (intriguing).
This isn’t the first time there have been rumblings of Atlus bringing their flagship franchise to the next generation, but it seems to add fuel to the fire. I know what I’m hoping: Persona 5 will be coming to the PS3 or 360, and hopefully within the next few years.

Persona 5 to the PS3 and i will be happy.
Turn-based RPG ? Give me a break. Did you see Uncharted 2 ? THAT'S what nex-gen gaming is all about, cover system, puzzle, intense battle, plattforming and not some whimpy high-schooler guessing the elemental weakness of a gigantic tongue, or gundam-like robots. Get on with the time will you ?
yeah man, what's with you and your time?
Yes, you're right... what was I thinking? There's only room for Uncharted 2 this generation. Everything else, get out! It doesn't matter if Persona 4 was one of the highest rated games of 2008, featured a fantastic storyline, addictive and strategic battle system, or interesting characters. If it's not Uncharted 2, who cares?
No one said you have to like turn-based RPGs, they're not for everyone, but I hardly think next-gen gaming is only about one type of game. Saying that seems pretty exclusive and seems like a good way to miss out on a bunch of great titles, but hey, your loss.
Then again time stopped moving years ago where I am. What day is it?
Last gen's best games (no, not Halo : Combat Evolved or San Andreas , both are garbage) like Chaos Theory, Half-Life 2 , Deus Ex, Resident Evil 4, Metroid Prime already introduced the depth of using your environement in order to achieve your objectives. Some had more depth in its deployment than the others, but still, Gravity Gun, hiding in shadow to conceal your presence, puzzles that are integrated with the environement, all served one purpose, to merge the player with the environements. THAT doesn't not happen in turn based RPG, which somewhat lends an antiquated , old-fashioned feel to such dusty genre. THAT is the case with Uncharted.
Unless your conception of 'merging with the environement' is that you get to talk with a burned-out celebrity who constantly laments whether her fabricated image on TV is herself or not , yeah.Antiquated.
To be fair, there were puzzles in SMT : Nocturne integrated in dungeon of Amala Labyrinth.
Don't get me wrong, I'm pretty psyched for Uncharted 2, but I don't agree that RPGs are "antiquated"--especially a series like Persona, which has brought some interesting innovations to a genre that can sometimes feel full of cliches. I don't really agree that because Persona 4 didn't use the environment in the same way as games of other genres, the game was any less engrossing. It kept me coming back for almost 100 hours.
At the end of the day we're all entitled to our opinions, so I'm not going to try and convince you to like a game you're clearly not interested in. I just think it's a mistake to state that RPGs are not "with the time" when the genre is clearly still evolving and moving forward.
