Blood of Bahamut Gets Japanese Release Date

Square Enix’s Handheld RPG Still Waiting on North American Date

by Sarah

It’s been a few months since Square Enix revealed Blood of Bahamut, an upcoming handheld role-playing game that isn’t a Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest remake, and in that time we’ve heard next to nothing about it. However, that doesn’t mean that the good people at Squenix haven’t been working on it! In fact, they have been toiling away all this time, and now the action RPG set in a city constructed on a giant creature is almost complete—at least, in Japan. Blood of Bahamut has just received a Japanese release date of August 6.

What does this mean for North American and European gamers? Well, nothing yet, but I have to assume the announcement of a U.S. release isn’t too far off. Usually, Japan gets Squenix games, then North America, then PAL regions (sorry, guys), so perhaps we’ll get to check this out sometime around the holiday season. Despite the fact that I know next to nothing about this game, the concept is intriguing as hell, and Squenix’s last non-remake DS action/RPG (The World Ends With You) was pretty damn awesome. Hopefully we’ll hear more soon.

    Giant land-castle beings. Yes.

Fun fact: That city on top of Bahamut's shoulder is actually very similar to the original city plans for Portland Oregon. But budget constraints hindered the construction of a giant living stone gollem.

Now all we need is a U.S. release date!
