Blu-ray Being Developed For Xbox 360?

April Fool's Threat Level Raised to Blu

by Sarah

Yes, here we go again. To recap, the last few months have gone a little something like this: first Microsoft said that they were totally confident in the HD-DVD player, and that that it was doing very well as an add-on for the Xbox 360. Then HD-DVD died a terrible, terrible death, and Blu-ray did a victory dance on its grave. Since then, there have been almost weekly reports that the Xbox 360 would be adopting the Blu-ray format, with Microsoft shooting down these rumors just as often. Are you tired of this story yet? Too bad!

It’s been reported today that Lite-On IT is developing built-in Blu-ray drives for the Xbox 360. “Industry sources” state that Xbox 360s will begin shipping with Blu-ray capability in the second half of 2008. Apparently, Microsoft is finally giving in to the winning HD movie format and switching over to Blu-ray.

While this would be a logical move by Microsoft, it also seems like a glaring April Fool’s joke. Time will tell whether or not Microsoft ever incorporates Blu-ray into the Xbox 360, but since they’ve never had a built-in high-def DVD player before, I’m not really sure why they would start now. Who knows? Maybe it is true. In other news, Mushroom Kingdom Hearts will be out later this year.

Sure, I believe it this time. The other nine times? No way. But this time...this time...

    I buy it.

I'll be inclined to believe it when a journalistic program or site actually has concrete evidence of this fact.
