This trailer describes upcoming PS3 adventure homage 3D Dot Game Heroes as "the ultimate retro love letter", and really, that's a fairly accurate description. The score evokes instant nostalgia, the graphics are a beautiful tribute to the 8-bit era, and anything that looks like the love child of Final Fantasy and The Legend of Zelda is perfectly fine in my book. Yes, 3D Dot Game Heroes is shaping up to be pretty awesome.

I got a look at the shiny waters and giant swords of 3D Dot Game Heroes a few weeks ago, and what I saw made me extremely excited. This trailer is showcasing the homage aspect even further, with bat-filled dungeons and cuckoo-looking creatures running around. I hope the entire game can carry the tongue-in-cheek humor that the trailers have displayed. It looks like the character creator alone could keep me occupied for hours, if not days, so this is definitely going to be a good way to start the summer.

3D Dot Game Heroes will be out in May, but we'll have a review for you next month. If you're not excited about it yet... well, why the hell not?
