Could Atlus Be Working on a New Odin Sphere?
Publisher Trademarked “Gungnir”, Odin’s Spear, in Japan
by Sarah

Odin Sphere was one of my favorite games of 2007, so the mere mention of “Atlus” and “Norse mythology” in the same sentence is enough to get me excited. The action/RPG developed by Vanillaware and localized by Atlus was steeped in fantasy, but also had elements of Norse mythology, as you could probably guess from the title. Siliconera is reporting that Atlus has just trademarked “Gungnir” in Japan, which is the name of Norse god Odin’s never-missing, auto-killing spear. Is this a coincidence, or is a new Odin Sphere a possibility?
It’s hard to guess with so little information to go on, but the ending of Odin Sphere didn’t seem to imply that a sequel would ever be coming. This may just be a case of wishful thinking, but imagine how awesome a next-gen Odin Sphere title would be. It probably wouldn’t have the same characters, but as long as the wonderful presentation and excellent gameplay mechanics were retained, that would be a day one purchase for me. Even if this isn’t related to Odin Sphere, I’m still mighty curious about what “Gungnir” could be. Hopefully we’ll find out sooner rather than later.
