Countdown Sites Maybe Counting Down to Something Cool
Key Word: Maybe
by Sarah
Countdown sites have become a great marketing ploy to get people hyped up about impending announcements before they even happen. All you need is a single image and a ticking clock, and suddenly, the internets are ablaze with wild speculation! Well, two new gaming-related countdowns have popped up on these here interwebs, and they are definitely worth pondering.

You all thought "Mario" when you saw that mushroom on the top image, right? Because I sure as hell did. It comes from a new Sega Japan site, and the mushroom makes an extra life-sounding noise when you click on that. But what could Sega and Nintendo be working on together? You know what, this better not be a sequel to Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games.
Then there's the second image, which has "Zelda" written all over it. Maybe not literally, but look at those triforces! That one is courtesy of Marvelous Entertainment, which Wikipedia tells me is well known "for its involvement in the Harvest Moon series." Uh... what?
Seriously, what is going on here? I'm clueless. You know what that means, guys. Let the wild speculation commence!

Maybe..., just, maybe.
Mushroom with Sonic' colours? Could very well be Mario and Sonic. I wouldn't be surprised, but it could be something completly different.
Triforce, yet involved in Harvest Moon? A Zelda-themed Rune factory would make sense.
Those were the thoughts I was mulling around in my head, too, J-Man. And neither one of them is something I'd really want (but I'd still probably play both). Actually, a Mario and Sonic game that's NOT At the Olympics might be okay. But Sonic games have sucked so badly lately I don't know what to expect.
Or, all of this speculation is completely off-base. Who knows.
Maybe Sonic hasn't been his old self lately, but Mario's still feeling young, so that sort of balances out, I guess.
