EA May Acquire Take-Two By Hostile Takeover
They Want the World, and They Want it Now
by Sarah
EA, one of the largest third-party publishers of anything, anywhere, ever, likes to buy other video game publishers and acquire their properties. Lately, they’ve been trying to buy Take-Two, the makers of the famous Grand Theft Auto series, with only months to go before GTA IV drops. However, it’s not going so well. Their multiple offers have been politely rejected, and Take-Two feels that EA is both undervaluing them and taking advantage of the pending Grand Theft Auto IV release that will undoubtedly mean lots of money for the publisher.
So what does EA do when they can’t buy anything? Do they give up, move on to other prospects, or maybe just stop buying publishers and make their own damn games? Hell no! They do what any respectable business would do: have a tantrum and tattle on Take-Two.
Claiming that they are still keeping all their options open in regard to the possible acquisition, it appears that EA may now try to get the company by appealing directly to the company’s shareholders. By making them a lucrative deal, EA may just yet be able to get their way. And then, of course, with Take-Two under their belt, they will be able to continue their plans for world domination. Just give it a few more years; we’ll really feel the effects when Madden release day becomes an international holiday.
