EA Sports Titles to Be Sold With Wii MotionPlus
Golf Just Got a Bit More Motion Sensitive
by Sarah

Nintendo recently announced that their newest controller peripheral, Wii MotionPlus, would launch in North America on June 8; however, the accessory’s flagship title, Wii Sports Resort, won’t be out until late July. EA is looking to rectify the lack of MotionPlus-compatible games by releasing their own bundle: Tiger Woods 2010 for the Wii will be sold with MotionPlus in North America. Europeans fare even better, with both Tiger Woods and Grand Slam Tennis getting the bundle treatment. Now you don’t have to wait until the end of July for some 1:1 motion-controlled sports action!
There’s no word yet on what the Tiger Woods 2010 bundle will cost, but the game alone is usually $49.99. While I think it’s good that there will be games supporting MotionPlus in the actual month it’s released, this doesn’t do a whole lot for me since I’m not a golf fan. I’m also still not sure about the $20 price point, which essentially makes my Wii controllers (remote plus nunchuk plus MotionPlus) eighty dollars each, $25 more than the pricey PS3 DualShock 3.
I like the idea of MotionPlus, but the cost seems a bit excessive, and at this point, two and a half years into the Wii’s lifespan, I’m not even really sure I need it. Is anyone else wary about Nintendo’s next peripheral?

Nintendo should make a deal with 3rd party publishers and include it for free. Look what the free wheel did for Mario Cart not to mention WiiPlay. Sure, they'll lose sales from the people who were going to buy these games regardless but having one come with Tiger Woods could make people pickup Wii Sports, TW, GS Tennis, and 1 of these.
I hate spending money on peripherals before I even know if I like the game
yeah, but nintendo loves updating already existing products with stuff just different enough for people to be driven into a frenzy over it. Mom and pop aren't going to know shit about this when they go to buy games for their kids, but they're sure going to remember paying for it when the "cheapest" console on the market goes from a seemingly harmless $250 to upwards of $400+ by the time they buy a second controller and one game.
The thing is, gyros are far from being as simple as plastic shells, like the Wii Wheel. They have recoup R&D and manufacturing costs. If you you look at how much the gyros themselves cost, $20-$25 isn't all that bad. Sure it's still a bummer, but it's optional, at least.
That being said, That Tiger Woods game just became a whole lot more interesting.
The thing is, I remember playing Tiger Woods 07 for the Wii. And although I enjoyed it, it was apparent that there was room for improvement in the motion controls. When you pulled back for your swing, 1 time out of 10, your club would either move forward or not at all until the very top of the arc. And then it would frantically try to readjust and knock your ball 5 feet away from the tee. LAME.
But a golf game, with realistic 1:1 controls that works every time would be well worth buying. Unfortunately, I don't think this MotionPlus thing will be as seamless as I want it to be.
