EyePet Delayed Again, This Time Until November?

UPDATE: Sony Responds to Potential Delay

by Sarah

Last October, we reported that EyePet had moved from its original October 2009 release date to April 2010. This was later confirmed by Sony, and EyePet seemed set for a spring launch. However, since then, we have heard very little about the game, which seems unusual for one of Sony's big first-party exclusives. The answer could be another delay: it appears that, once again, EyePet was pushed back. This time, it was to November 2010.

The date comes from GameStop's website, and before you scoff, please remember that GameStop had the last EyePet delay listed before it was announced. It does seem unlikely that EyePet wil be ready to launch in a mere three months, and I assume that Sony is taking their time to make sure the virtual creature will function perfectly with the PlayStation Eye. When I saw it last, it seemed to be coming along nicely, but I was told that certain living room conditions would need to be met, which could be an issue for some gamers. Either that or Sony thinks this will be a standout holiday title, which is risky. It could be a big seller, or it could get lost in the November rush.

We have contacted Sony about the possible delay, and will keep you posted. In the meantime, let's discuss whether or not EyePet would make a good holiday season release.

UPDATE: Sony has responded with the following statement:

If we don't provide a date, this is the standard date all retailers put to a title.  It doesn't mean anything and we haven't made any new announcements on EyePet's date.

While it is true that GameStop often uses placeholder dates, it is unusual for the retailer to push back a release in their system without reason, since they could potentially lose out on reserves. What do you think?

I guess this is disappointing. Mostly because I wanted to see if this thing would even work. Mostly.

It's a shame, the PS3 could have used this to help continue it's momentum.

In related news, EyePet delayed until technology that allows it to look as cool as it does in the teaser is real.
