Fallout 3 "Broken Steel" DLC Broken

Second Verse, Same as the First

by Sarah

Okay, this is getting out of control. Bethesda is a publisher I usually trust to make good games and, you know, not release broken or corrupt products. However, the DLC for one of last year's best games, Fallout 3, doesn't have the best track record. When “The Pitt” launched at the end of March, the 360 version was beyond glitchy, and actually unplayable for many of the gamers who shelled out hard-earned cash and then had to wait for a fix. The newest DLC, “Broken Steel”, just launched today, and already reports are coming in that it’s not working on the PC. According to Kotaku, gamers who downloaded it this morning were met with this message immediately:

Not a cryptographic message or the cryptographic message is not formatted correctly. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8009200D)

I like to think that I’m a patient and forgiving person, especially when it comes to a publisher that has given me so many hours of enjoyment over the years, but seriously, Bethesda, what the hell? Hopefully, this will be fixed quickly, but that doesn’t make it any less unacceptable. No word yet on whether the 360 version is suffering from similar issues, but if you’re having trouble with “Broken Steel”, be sure to let us know. I know I’m probably going to hold off on downloading any Bethesda DLC on day one for the immediate future.

Good thing I still have one exam left and am waiting till that's over to get the DLC. Hopefully it's patched by tomorrow afternoon...

Hopefully the 360 version is safe.

I've read that there have been a few instances of issues on the 360, but nothing as drastic as the PC problems.

The good news is that Bethesda is usually really good about patching these things.

The bad news is, they have to sacrifice 200 human souls in order to do it.

Update from kotaku: Apparently, the issue it with the Games for Windows Live service. So Microsoft is on the case for now. Also, the 360 is broken too. The player would be unable to activate a key part of the game due to a glitch in the conversation right before the event.

That sucks the issue still hasn't been resolved. I was planning on going home today and getting some much needed F3 time in :/

Note: This is still broken and I am still sad.
