Fan-Made Portal: Prelude to Give Fans Portal Fix?
I'm Not Quite Sure What to Make of This
by Sarah
As most people who have played Portal can agree, any more of this game, in any form, is a good thing. If I had the applicable skills, I probably would have made my own Portal game by now, just to have some new levels to play. Apparently, one designer/modder with said skills had the same idea, and, as the above trailer shows, has decided to go ahead and make his own prequel to Portal, called Portal: Prelude. The website for the game describes the story as thus:
Portal: Prelude, as its name states it, is an unofficial prequel to the game Portal. Its story revolves around the pre-GlaDOS epoch, even before she was plugged in. At this time, test subjects were monitored by real Aperture Science employees whose work was tedious, lengthy and repetitive. This is why they decided to build a great artificial intelligence that could both replace them in these difficult tasks, but also take responsibility for many other tasks within the complex and compete with Black Mesa's superiority. All employees of the Aperture Science complex are now eagerly awaiting GlaDOS. Maybe even a little too eagerly, as the upcoming events will tell...
The game will be downloadable via Steam and will be totally free, provided that you have already purchased and installed Half-Life 2, Counter-Strike Source, Day of Defeat Source, or the Source SDK Base. I’m not much of a PC gamer myself, but I do think that it’s pretty cool that this team is going to release a free game just out of sheer love for all things Portal. I’m kind of bummed that I won’t get to play it, but then again, I’ve still got Portal: Still Alive coming to the 360 later this year, so hopefully that will satisfy my need for more Portal goodness.
