Final Fantasy XIII Coming to PS3 in 2009

Versus XIII Coming Whenever it Feels Like it

by Sarah

If you’ve been following the development of Final Fantasy XIII and its counterpart, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, you know that there hasn’t been any real release date given for either of these games. It’s also known that Versus XIII is, as of now, a PS3 exclusive, while Square Enix dropped a huge bomb at E3 by announcing FFXIII would be coming to the Xbox 360 (which will make it the first time a FF game ever appears on a Microsoft system). That’s all fine and good, but tell me, Squenix: when can I actually play these damn games?

According to Kotaku’s observations at Tokyo Game Show, Final Fantasy XIII will be hitting the PS3 in 2009. That sounds far away, but it’s really not so much anymore. What isn’t clear is if this means Japan only, or if FFXIII will see a worldwide launch on the PS3 next year (presumably before it hits the 360). I’m hoping for the latter, because I’ll happily pick this up on the PS3—I just want to play it already. As for Versus XIII, all Squenix had to say was “for PS3 worldwide”. Guess that game won’t be making the jump to any other systems anytime soon; then again, it could be years before we even see it, so who knows.
