Fox News Does it Again
Headline Reads "Video Gamers Left Baby To Die"
by Sarah
As if I wasn’t already ill enough this morning, Fox News made sure to try to get me sick to my stomach. If they could, I bet they would spin every headline they’ve got to make it a negative statement about people who play video games. Oh, wait, they already do that. The latest ridiculous headline, spotted on their website, reads “Video Gamers Leave Baby to Die.”
The actual story, which is indeed very, very sad, is that two irresponsible parents from Peoria, Illinois, left their five-month-old strapped to a car seat in a crib for eight days. Meanwhile, they were home “playing video games, watching TV, feeding and caring for themselves.” Yup, that’s an open-and-shut case against gamers, I think. But wait… they fed themselves too! Maybe food is actually the culprit here. Think about it: everyone who commits a crime also eats. Get Jack Thompson on the phone, I think I’ve solved the puzzle.
Obviously, my fever-induced theories don’t resemble anything that you could call “logic”. As Kotaku has already pointed out, Fox News was the only media source to use video games in the headline. Of course, this is nothing new for Fox. In addition to the Mass Effect debacle they were involved with earlier this year, they’re known for regularly putting up sensationalistic headlines, often unfairly blaming video games for random crimes. Sure, this tactic may get them more page views, but how far are they willing to go to get people to pay attention to them? They’ve already given up any shred of journalistic integrity Once again, nice job, Fox News. We can always count on you to stay classy.

I can't say that video games were the definite cause for neglection here, but it definitely has in the past. I've read various cases which stated that the parent(s) played Everquest or World of Warcraft for hours on end while their children went unfed, or sometimes, locked in a closet. In a few cases the child died.
Food is the reason for all crimes... i do believe you have something here...
So its a sad thing, but some people in this world just are warped. The key point to this story isnt that they played video games- they prob did every night- its that they let there child die. If they had been doing drugs, would we feel better about it?
The video games should have NOTHING to do with the crime. All it does is give them the chance to use it as an excuse.

even if the parents were playing WoW or something and neglecting their children--that's still the fault of the stupid, irresponsible, mentally unbalanced parents who should not have been allowed to breed, not the video games.
Exactly, but the fact is (not this case, the ones previously mentioned) that they were being occupied by video games, that's why it becomes the focus of the report. Neglection due to drugs is a common occurrence, if that was the cause here the story would not be as big. But if the parents neglected their children because they were addicted to tennis that'd be the headline too.

P.s.
Fox is just blowing things out of porportion again to, as you said, get hits. They take an AP article, focus on two words, and make it the headline for their page. I'm not disagreeing with you. Fox is terrible. I'm just saying it's happened before.
Tragedy. these parents are definitely mental. looks like WoW kills babies now \:, rite?
Fox is just a big drama llama
