Gamecock Wants Gamers to Vote
New Website Encourages Registration
by Sarah
Gamecock, the Texas-based video game publisher, has always been a little wacky. They’re also no stranger to politics, having publicly endorsed Stephen Colbert for President last year. Even though that didn’t exactly work out, they’re still determined to get gamers involved in politics, and have set up a website that encourages gamers to register to vote.
Cock the Vote, which is now up and running, is meant to inform gamers about the political issues at hand. Of course, the site also serves to help promote their upcoming political parody, Hail to the Chimp.
From a press release from Gamecock CEO Mike Wilson:
Our original intent was to join the campaign trail with Hail to the Chimp to provide much-needed comic relief from the election season. And, now that [Comedy Central’s Stephen] Colbert’s not running, we thought we’d better focus our attention on those who are. However, our meeting with Rock the Vote inspired us to use our gaming muscle to energize people in the election process…
Whether it’s to promote a game or not, trying to inspire more people to vote is a great idea. Gamers need a voice too, especially with the way we’re constantly attacked by politicians. And if you’re looking for some politically-inspired laughs in the meantime, there’s always Hail to the Chimp.
