Last year, Grand Theft Auto IV was the highest-rated game on both the Xbox 360 and PS3. Therefore, it may come as no surprise that the first DS game in the series, Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, has already shot up to the top of the DS charts, becoming the DS game with the highest score on both Metacritic and Gamerankings. At 94% out of a hundred, it beats out the likes of Chrono Trigger, Mario Kart DS, and The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass.

Since many people don’t care about review scores, this may not affect your purchase of the game at all, and that’s totally understandable. However, I find it very interesting that the top-rated game on Nintendo’s family-friendly handheld is a Mature title from one of the most controversial franchises ever. What would Jack Thompson say?
