GTA IV Gets Patched on PS3
Because Who Doesn't Love Patches?
by Sarah
Despite Grand Theft Auto IV enjoying an immensely successful first week and already being in the running for highest-reviewed game of all time, the game is not without its problems. Technical difficulties have plagued both PS3 and 360 versions of the game from day one, with freezing issues being the most commonly reported.
According to Kotaku, Rockstar has released a patch for the PS3 version of GTA IV, which should prevent the game from locking up any further. No word yet on when 360 owners can expect a patch for their game, but since the technical problems seem to be far more limited on Microsoft’s console, it may be a little while longer. Rockstar’s official statement is below.
Rockstar Games has released a GTA IV patch for Playstation 3 today that prevents Gamespy’s servers from being overloaded and therefore reduces the impact on those servers that were causing the game to stutter and lock up. We continue to monitor the performance of the game both on and offline and will provide further updates as necessary. We want to assure everyone that, together with our hardware partners, we continue to strive to give our fans the best possible interactive entertainment experiences possible. This update will ensure that everyone will experience Grand Theft Auto IV the way it was intended. We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused.
