Although the Guitar Hero series started on consoles, it found its way to the DS last year with a new peripheral that fits in the Game Boy Advance slot. Now upcoming Activision game Band Hero is looking to add even more musical accessories to the handheld, with a drum pad add-on that will let you use your fingers to rock out. As you can see from the picture above (courtesy of Kotaku), the pads go over the face buttons and D-pad, allowing you to use your thumbs to drum. Oh, and if you’re thinking about rocking out with your shiny new DSi, I’ve got bad news for you—the drumpads will only fit around the DS Lite.

I honestly can’t imagine that these little pads come close to recreating the fun of playing drums on the console versions of Guitar Hero, but without trying them out for myself I can’t say anything for sure. Amazon is listing the Band Hero DS bundle, which comes out November 10, for $50, ten dollars more than the usual high-end games on Nintendo’s handheld. Not a bad price if the game is great and that drum peripheral gets a lot of use, but that remains to be seen.
