Latest Final Fantasy XIII Trailer Has Me Super Hyped

Less Than Two Months To Go

by Sarah

It's the 13th of January, which means once again Square Enix has released some new media for Final Fantasy XIII. This time, there are only three new screens, but the trailer more than makes up for the lack of images. This is actually my favorite FFXIII trailer yet. Not only does it showcase a lot of emotionally charged moments I would expect from a game in this series, but it's the first to get me legitimately excited to try out the new battle system. I don't much care for the song playing in the background, sometimes so loud it drowns out the dialogue, but Squenix is making a big deal about the Leona Lewis track, so I guess we just have to deal.

The combat is starting to look really epic, with damage from attacks being shown in the tens of thousands. Will it live up to expections? I really hope so. I'm looking forward to this game so much that I'll be heartbroken if it's not as good as it should be. If you simply can't wait that long to play the game, it may interest you to know that a Final Fantasy XIII bus tour will be kicking off today in San Francisco and making its way across North America; you can follow it on Twitter to track its progress. If you're not on the bus, you still only have a few more weeks to wait until FFXIII hits stores on March 9, 2010. Have I mentioned that I'm excited?

Most complaints are directed on linearity and lack of exploration. The battle system gets praised.

RPGFan is the most reliable review site when it comes to RPGs. Their reviewers are probably as knowledgable as Shane Bettenhausen and Jeremy Parish from Electronic Gaming Monthly.

Dialogue is sounding kinda sappy... even more than the usual FF/JRPG level sappiness. And that awful song!!!

Was so hyped about this game but losing my enthusiasm especially when I read in the early reviews that there are no towns/exploration and that it's all basically a long dungeon crawl with plenty of cut scenes to make it all tolerable. I would have preferred a more open world like FF XII's.

Then again it may surprise me... as linear as FF X was, the story and characters really made you want to keep playing.

You make a good point, Relayer. FFX was much more linear than any of the other FF titles, but I barely noticed, I loved the game so much and always wanted to press forward.

I'm not really checking out the early reviews of the Japanese release of FFXIII. Other reviewers' scores and opinions mean nothing to me. I'll form my own when my copy gets here.

That song in the trailer is kinda awful, though.
