A free Left 4 Dead patch meant to improve the game’s versus mode went live today. The patch makes playing as a zombie just a little better with some tweaks to the HUD, most notably a counter that lets you know when your teammates’ special attacks recharge. More interesting, however, is the fact that the patch seems to be preparing for the upcoming “Crash Course” DLC. According to Kotaku, the in-game achievements menu now states that there are 60, not 50, achievements. However, these mystery achievements do not have names, nor is it known how many Gamerpoints they are worth.

I didn’t really need any extra incentive to buy the upcoming downloadable content for one of my favorite games of 2008, but if Valve wants to hand out more achievements, I’m certainly not going to complain. Hopefully this means we don’t have much longer to wait until “Crash Course” is made available. It’s been way too long since I’ve shot a bunch of zombies in the face.
