LittleBigPlanet Achieves Gold Status in the UK
Sells Over 200,000 Copies Overseas

One of the most disappointing pieces of industry news I got last month was the fact that LittleBigPlanet did not seem to be selling as well as it should. Sure, it had a rough launch, and the moderation issues haven’t quite been resolved yet, but that hasn’t stopped LBP from being one of my absolute favorite games of 2008. However, things seem to be picking up for the Media Molecule platformer, as the game has just reached gold status in the UK. This means that the game has sold over 200,000 copies. Even better news, according to Edge, is that it appears LittleBigPlanet is on track to go platinum (300,000 to 600,000 copies sold).
Of course, this doesn’t compare to the earth-shattering, record-breaking sales of Fallout 3, GTA IV, or Gears of War 2, but it’s a start. Personally, I can’t get enough of this game, and though it’s taking a while for the masses to catch on, I’m glad that the sales are improving. No word on recent North American sales of LittleBigPlanet yet, but I’m hoping that the holiday season (and post-holiday gift card rush) has been good to the game. Now, if only more people would buy Valkyria Chronicles…

Yay. It's good to see that a SCEI Platformer has won the world's hearts again... almost... of course it's getting it's ass handed to it by the FPS games, but you don't exactly get bored of something like this as easily I think. It's a lot more creative and certainly deserves the sales. The narration from Stephen Fry is genius and makes this game have a quintessence that can't be emulated by most modern games.
Hopefully the long-term will prove that LBP has the ability to compete with the big boys.
And, yes Dr. LeRoux - Stephen Fry's narration is simply amazing. The best voice-over work since GTA IV.
this will continue to sell better i think as more things are added and as word of mouth continues to spread. Just continue with the DLC, add in the ability to m ake levels online with friends and i think sales will increase even more.
This is disappointing news considering that LBP is an awesome game in many aspects. Bioshock is game that reached great heights not only because it's a terrific game but due to good media and word of mouth. I feel that LBP is along the same lines.
You would think that PS3 owners would be joyful that their system is finally getting some love and respect with great exclusive titles like: Little Big Planet, Valkyria Chronicles, Resistance 2, Killzone 2, Uncharted 2, God of War 3, Heavy Rain, and Infamous.
In Europe, with the release of Bioshock, it sold 360 consoles. People went out to buy an XBox just to play the game, but unfortunately Sony still has that problem with a high priced console.
