LittleBigPlanet Sells 1.3 Million Copies

Now That's More Like it!

by Sarah

There was a lot of good news for PS3 fans coming from Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Kaz Hirai at CES today. First of all, Hirai stated that LittleBigPlanet, the PS3-exclusive create-your-own-platformer (and Gamervision’s Platformer of the Year) has reached 1.3 million units sold. This is excellent news, coming just a day after it was announced that LBP has reached gold status in the UK. Considering that just a few weeks ago, LittleBigPlanet wasn’t selling so well, I’m very happy to hear that sales have picked up. I’m guessing a lot of people got this game for Christmas, because over 300,000 community levels have been created, with over two years’ worth of play time spent in the game overall.

In other PS3-related news, Hirai also said that with 2.1 million PlayStation Network accounts being created in December, the number of PSN users has reached 17 million—the same number as Microsoft has with Xbox Live users, which is crazy. You guys know I’m no fanboy, but I have to say, I am really happy to hear all of this. LittleBigPlanet deserves every sale it gets, and it’s good to hear that the PS3 is not on its way out, after all.

It's of no surprise to me that it will eventually catch on as more people play it and word gets out about how great the game is.
