Meet the Heroes of Persona 4

More Info on the Possible RPG of the Year

by Sarah

If you’re anything like me, you both adored last year’s Persona 3 and are anxiously awaiting the December release of Persona 4 on the PS2—next-gen systems be damned! Atlus has released some more information of the upcoming Shin Megami Tensei game, and just like the last one, it sounds like it’s going to be quirky, mildly disturbing, and fairly interesting. However, I’ll let you guys decide for yourselves. Below is the Atlus synopsis of the storyline, as well as a few brief character bios.

______________________________________________

In the small town of Inaba, nestled in the Japanese countryside, a young man settles in with his uncle and cousin. Sudden circumstances have forced the arrangement, but it is for the most part an agreeable place to live, if a little boring. Everything changes when a shocking and mysterious killing leaves a town aghast and searching for answers. As all signs point to involvement of a twisted serial murderer, a young hero and his friends will discover hidden powers and use them to save innocents from certain death. Together, they must find the trail of the unknown attacker… before they strike again!

PROTAGONIST

The main character of Persona 4. He recently moved to the countryside to live with his uncle and cousin. After awakening to his potential as a Persona user, he opens the door to a mysterious world.

CHIE SATONAKA

A classmate of the Protagonist’s who was born and raised in Inaba. She is a cheerful, energetic girl, but what dark burden does she bear within herself? And what could her talents as a Persona-user be?

YOSUKE HANAMURA ?

The Protagonist’s classmate at Yasogami High School. He has an amicable personality and is adept at reading social situations. He, too, awakens as a Persona user, but what triggers his awakening?

YUKIKO AMAGA ?

Yukiko’s days are occupied with helping her family run the historic Amagi Inn. She joins the group of Persona users, but how is she involved in the murder case?

TEDDIE

A mysterious creature that the Protagonist and his friends encounter inside the TV. It seems to have some power in the other world, but is it friend or foe?

______________________________________________

Is it just me, or is Teddie kind of reminiscent of Final Fantasy VII’s Cait Sith? He seems oddly out of place amongst that cast, but then again, he is found inside a TV. Just as a reminder, Persona 4 will be out on December 10 in the U.S., so be sure to clear 60-100 hours in your schedule late this year.

If I may play devil's advocate: what else is in the running for RPG of this year? Zoids Assault? Baroque?

i would think Tales of Vesperia, Infinite Undiscovery, Eternal Poison, Valkyria Chronicles, Disgaea 3, The Last Remnant too name a few of the RPG's that have released this year.. oh and i guess also Fable 2 and Fallout 3

How come the main protagonist looks exactly like Akihiko?

And yeah, there's tons of stuff that is RPG worthy. Although I have to argue that SRPG's should be placed in a different genre, as they are strategy games first, RPG's second.

i didn't know if they went into seperate categories or not so i just thew them out there, but even without those there are still some solid titles that will compete for the RPG of the year.

as for the main, he does look A LOT like Akihiko, very odd. Everyone else looks pretty unique from anyone in P3.

I noticed the Akihiko similarity too. Maybe there are a lot of gray-haired teens in Japan?

haha possibly sarah. I will say too that the protagonist from P3 i think looks cooler than this guy, though who knows till i actually play 4.

YOSUKE HANAMURA looks like he will be a pretty cool character

Teddie looks interesting as well...here's a question, as I haven't researched into P4's story much - will there still be school/social aspects?

I don't think that the school and social thing will be exactly the same as P3's... which is a shame, because it worked brilliantly. I could be wrong, though (hopefully), I mean they are still teens so one would assume they still go to school and try to hook up with lots of people. I do know that there are going to be weather changes that affect things the way the full moon did in P3, which should be interesting.

from what I have read they all attend school together, not sure what that means in terms of it you go to classes daily like you did in P3.

The social aspects are still there Raccoon, as you have to get your social links up there, though they affect battle more in P4. Meaning you are given battle stats and whatnot the higher your social levels are.

Sounds awesome, I can't wait to try the new system out. All this Persona talk is making me want to take out P3 FES and play it through... just haven't had 130 hours of free time yet!
