Miyamoto on New Zelda: Won't Be Different
Is That Good or Bad?
by Sarah

Despite missing a golden opportunity to announce a new Zelda at Nintendo’s E3 press conference, Miyamoto did casually mention during the convention that a new game featuring Link and friends was in the works. It has since been reported that the team at Nintendo may use Wii MotionPlus for the game’s controls, which shouldn’t be a bad thing as long as the developers don’t throw in a bunch of silly motion-based commands. Since this is the first Zelda being developed from the ground up for the Wii, does this mean it will be a different experience?
Not so much. In the latest issue of Nintendo Power, Miyamoto reportedly stated “I don’t think it’s going to be that radically different” in regards to the upcoming Zelda title. I’m currently trying to decide if that’s a good or bad thing. On the one hand, Twilight Princess was amazing, and I don’t want the game to stray too far from the classic Zelda formula; the franchise is one of the most beloved of all time for a reason. On the other hand, I’d still like to see some progress, and not feel like I’m just playing a clone of Twilight Princess.
Although Miyamoto’s comments might be cause for concern, I’m not too worried. Nintendo has made some major missteps in the eyes of “core gamers” over the last few years, but when it comes to the Zelda series, I don’t have a reason to doubt that the game is in good hands. Of course, if it ships with a music-conducting mini-game of some sort, then we’ll have a problem.

yeah, i'm not sure i'd use the word "concerned" but it seems like a dumb thing for him to say. if it isn't any different than twilight princess i'd have no reason to buy it, right? i love zelda but each game should get a little better/prettier/harder/more interesting, or else what's the point?
If it ain't broke don't fix it, etc. etc. etc.
I trust Miyamoto inherently when it comes to all matters Zelda. I don't care if he changed the entire cast into microscopic germs and had the entire thing take place inside of Bill Murray. I'd still buy it day one.
I don't like hearing questionable news about a new Zelda game because I always fear the worst. But I also don't like hearing really promising news about a new Zelda game because it makes the wait feel longer.
I don't suppose we could all just ignore it completely and leave Mr. Miyamoto to his work? Then launch day will sneak up on us and it will feel great! Right? Let's all do that, then...
He looks totally gay in that pic. And I don't mean happy.
