NYCC 09: Eyes-On Wolfenstein
Impressions and Screenshots
by Sarah
The Wolfenstein series is one that is very near and dear to my heart, mostly because I have fond memories of playing Wolfenstein 3D endlessly as a child. When Wolfenstein, Raven Software’s newest installment in the franchise, was announced, I was cautiously optimistic. This new Wolfenstein, due out later this year, was one of three games showcased at Activision’s NYCC Cocktail Mixer tonight. Unfortunately, it was the only one that was not playable. I did get to spend some time watching a live demo of the game, as well as getting plenty of screenshots to show you guys.
At first glance, Wolfenstein looks like, well, Wolfenstein. The graphics have been updated, but there are still plenty of guns and Nazi emblems. However, there is a paranormal element that kicks in and completely changes the look of each environment, as you can see in the images. This spectral vision is called “the veil” and changes the way you see enemies and locations, as well as giving everything a bluish-greenish hue (one person behind me noted, “The colors remind me of BioShock”).
I wish we had gotten to spend more time with the game, but hopefully that will happen at some point in the near future. We only saw the 360 version of the game being played, but the final product is supposed to be released on the PC and PS3 as well. Check out the screenshots below for more (you can click them to view them in Expand-O-Scope), and check back for more information on Activision’s upcoming releases, as well as more New York Comic Con coverage than you can handle.

Disappointed that in the first pic you can see THE EXACT SAME CHARACTER MODEL laying in front of the dude. C'mon Raven, you can do better than that.
I'm still waiting to see just where all this is going. I used to dig the wolfenstein franchise, so hopefully this game will bring that love back to the surface.
I still, from time to time, go back and play Return. I love the series and am looking forward to this one. Oh and Raccoon, don't you know that's a clone?
