Nintendo Announces Legitimate Storage Solution for the Wii
Supporting High Capacity SD Cards
by Sarah

One of the biggest complaints about the Nintendo Wii has been the lack of any real storage space for the system. With Virtual Console and WiiWare games taking up more and more space, gamers have been vocal about their need for more room to store games, and it appears that Nintendo was actually listening. The publisher announced the Wii’s storage solution would be the ability to save and launch games from SD cards—high capacity SD cards, too, up to 32 gigs.
The update will come with a new Wii system menu, and the SD card will have its own screen, with channels similar to the ones the Wii already has. Gamers can now store over 200 games on a card, download the games directly to it, and launch them from the SD card as well. Oh, yeah, and this service is available right now. Hey, Nintendo, thanks for listening.

Just played a few minutes of Gunstar heroes right off of my SD card as soon as the update was done. I haven't tried to access other games, but 8- and 16-bit games load in about 5 seconds. I'll be trying Pokémon Snap as soon as my girlfriend is done watching her show.
Nice. I like the Apple-esque move of making the announcement while the update is going on. No need to wait, there it is, thank you very much!
I agree Sean, this was handled and presented well today.
I can finally spend more money! Lost Winds loaded well, only took a few seconds longer than normal. Nice job, Tendo.
32 gig SD card?!? That's more then my damn xbox!
