Nintendo Aware of Wii Storage Issue
Maybe Someday You'll Get a Whole Gig!
by Sarah
Since the day the Wii launched, one of the main concerns gamers have had about the console is the severe lack of storage space. With no external hard drive and a whole catalogue of games to download, 512 MB of internal memory fills up fast. The recent launch of WiiWare has given gamers even more reasons to need more memory, although it seems like Nintendo has been blind to this necessity.
However, in the last few weeks, rumors have been surfacing that Nintendo may indeed be working on a storage solution for the Wii. Despite marketing director Laurent Fischer making an ill-advised comment that only “geeks and otaku” would want more memory, this hasn’t stopped the internet rumblings about the possibility. Now it seems that Fischer has changed his mind, telling GamesIndustry.biz that he knows gamers need more memory:
"We definitely detect that they [gamers] are serious and we know there is an issue in this, so it's something that we're working on… Definitely there's no plan to issue hardware, an external hard drive, but we know that we have an issue in that area… It's very obvious and we're perfectly aware of it, but there's nothing we can say beyond this."
I wonder if the “no external hard drive” comment also includes the rumored USB storage solution we reported on last week. Does that mean that Nintendo is going to increase memory through some kind of hardware update? I’m guessing that we’re going to hear more about this at E3 this year, so stay tuned to Gamervision for more news on Nintendo’s storage issues.

I haven't done it, but how easy is it to put flash memory in and transfer files?
I have a feeling they're going to update the wii to support SDHC cards, which are 4gb and up, and the ability to play games off of them. I rather have a external hard drive though. Damn you Nintendo!
