Nintendo Sells Over 1.5 Million Hardware Units Week of Thanksgiving
They've Got a Lot to Be Thankful For
by Sarah

Sony may have sold 440,000 PS3s last week, but who cares? Nintendo scoffs at those kinds of numbers. On the heels of a long-awaited price cut, Nintendo sold 550,000 Wiis last week. Of course, even that's nothing compared to the number of DS and DSi systems sold--over one million handhelds. As Nintendo happily pointed out, that's about 2.5 Nintendo systems sold every second from November 22 to November 28.
The handheld sales are particularly impressive, surpassing the sales record set by the Game Boy Advance during Thanksgiving week of 2002, though since Nintendo is combining the sales of two different SKUs--the DS and the DSi--they might be cheating a little bit. I'm guessing the new DSi colors and bundles that were available last week probably helped sales just a little bit. Way to go, Nintendo. Did anyone take advantage of the sales and pick up a Wii, DS, or DSi last week, either for yourself or as a gift?

I really wish I waited. Yes, this is the first time I've ever said that.
