NY Times Knows Nothing About Video Games

Either That or They're Writing From the Future...

by Sarah

You know the New York Times, one of the country’s largest and most respected media sources? Well, it seems their fact-checker was asleep at the wheel this week.

The Times ran an article about technology on November 30, which included all three major video game consoles. Everything they said about the Wii was correct, but when it came to the PS3 and 360, not so much. According to the Times, the PS3 starts at $299, not $399, and the yet-to-be-released game Gran Turismo 5 is one of its best sellers. Wow, do they know something we don’t? Better yet, they’ve also reported that like the PS3, the 360 uses the Cell processor.

Now, I don’t want to be quick to judge here, but those are some pretty blatant errors. Aside from the paper showing that it knows nothing about video games and doesn’t care about those who do, it’s just sloppy journalism. Either that or they’ve got a working time machine at the office and have already played GT5 on their $299 PS3s. That would be cool, but still doesn’t explain the Cell processor in the Xbox 360.

The way I see is that the major news sources should leave technology & gaming to those who know or invite an independent journalist to give the facts. NY Times isn't very honorable due to their stance on many things. Shame on them supremely.

LOL kornrulz. but seriously, the media needs to start taking video games seriously. this year, the video game industry made more revenue then the Movie industry did for the first time ever.

I was watching the news today and they were talking about holiday video game sales. As the guy was talking about "EA's answer to Guitar Hero", Rock band, They showed a clip of Guitar Hero while going over the new guitar/drums/microphone. They know so little.
