NYCC 09: Marvel/Activision Panel Live!
It's Sunday morning here at New York Comic Con, and the Marvel/Activision panel is about to get underway. Join me for the next hour and keep hitting refresh for constant updates. If you're just tuning in, start at the bottom and work your way up.
12:15 - They try again, it freezes again. "Does anyone have any action figures?" "It'll be fine in the game, probably." And thus ends the panel.
12:13 - We're going to see an epic boss battle. Someone from Raven keeps saying that the PR is going to kill him. THE SCREEN FREEZES! People start shouting "Red ring! Should've got a PS3! PR sabotaged it!" It's not at ALL contrived.
12:10 - We're closing out with some more gameplay from Wolverine.
12:09 - How do they feel about what the competition (DC) is doing? "Uh, what competition?" Burn?
12:08 - How smart is the AI in Wolverine? "Smart enough to make it fun... you don't want them to be too smart." We don't? Okay.
12:07 - In the comic Civil War, Hulk wasn't around because of Planet Hulk. Will he be in the game? "I don't know if we'll be doing a huge amount of footwork to explain things like that." That kind of answers the question.
12:06 - Will there be a special edition for either game? Wolverine, possibly. Too early to talk about MUA2.
12:05 - The camera view in MUA2 will change depending on the situation.
12:04 - Same voice actors for MUA2 as MUA? There is a mixture of old and new.
12:03 - Will choosing a side in the MUA2 Civil War, will that affect the team formations? That's an area where they thought gameplay would trump strict adherence to the comic. The vast majority will come with you even if it goes against the comic story.
12:02 - The storyline for Wolverine will be about 95% movie content, 30-40% comic content. Wait, huh?
12:02 - "Any DLC?" "No comment."
12:01 - In MUA2, can save data from MUA be carried over? If you finished the first game, "our game will know and there will be something for you." "It's not Deadpool."
12:01 - Someone asks if a boss battle will be with Deadpool. They won't say.
12:00 - Will there be large-scale boss battles in Wolverine? Yes, definitely, but they won't say with who.
11:58 - Someone asks if the version we saw today was from the Wii. (Think that was a dig on the graphics--ouch!) It was the 360 version, which should have been obvious by the constant achievements unlocking. But there will be a Wii version.
11:58 - Someone wants to know when they can see MUA2 on PC. They're not talking about different SKUs at the moment.
11:54 - We see the Wolverine-takes-down-a-helicopter scene. Reminder: Wolverine can take down helicopters.
11:53 - "We never want to nerf Wolverine."
11:47 - The level with Wolverine in his classic yellow costume that we saw the other night is met with applause and cheers.
11:43 - A discussion about the combat in Wolverine opens up. They wanted to do what other games hadn't done; they wanted it to actually feel like Wolverine.
11:42 - I hate to admit it, but I am impressed that Activision decided to go with an M-rated, super bloody Wolverine game instead of just throwing together a T-rated movie tie-in, which they easily could have done.
11:35 - We're seeing the Wolverine trailer. It's so freaking bloody and violent. Love it. I played this game the other night and was surprised by how fun it was.
11:34 - They start talking about Wolverine and the challenges of tying in the game with the movie, but also being true to the fans. "Please buy it, don't get me fired."
11:31 If you're read Civil War, you will see a lot of scenes lifted right from the comic in MUA2, but there will also still be plenty of surprising moments.
11:26 - They talk a bit about the character selection process. They like to have a good mix of popular and obscure characters, as well as being sure to include those important to the Civil War story.
11:25 - They can't talk about in-depth details of MUA2, particularly roster. Don't even ask.
11:24 - In case you didn't know, MUA2 is about the Marvel Civil War.
11:22 - They start off with a trailer for Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2. I am actually really looking forward to this, the first one was great.
11:21 - They're starting off by saying that this isn't a good panel for small children because there will be mature content. Also, a documentary for Marvel and Activision is being filmed during the panel. Interesting. The panel is being moderated by the editor-in-chief of GameSpot.
11:19 - They promise to get started soon. There's a screen set up, I'm guessing we're going to see that Wolverine trailer again.
