NYCC 09: Sony, EA, Nintendo, and More Considering Emily the Strange Game
Rob Reger Spills the Beans on an Upcoming Project
by Sarah
One of the many people I had the opportunity to talk to at New York Comic Con this weekend was Rob Reger, the creator of the iconic teen Emily the Strange. When we spoke last year, he mentioned that there was an Emily game in the works. However, since then, I haven’t heard anything about it, and was hoping for an update. While it’s still in the earliest stages, Rob told me that there has been some interest among publishers in an Emily the Strange video game:
While there is still no hint as to what kind of gameplay an Emily-themed title would entail, it seems that there has been some progress on this project since it was first announced. Like I said, it’s still way too early to do much more speculating, but it’s noteworthy that some big-name publishers are expressing interest. You can read the full interview over on The Quarterbin.
Last year, you said that there was an Emily movie and Emily video game in the works. Has there been any progress on either of these projects?
There has been some progress, but I have to say that it’s slower than I had imagined. We’re still getting the foundation together on that, still working out deal points with the studio. Mike and I have talked a lot more about the type of movie it’s going to be, nothing I can state yet, though.
Have any developers or publishers expressed interest in the Emily game?
Yes, several have…
Are you allowed to say which ones?
Yeah, sure. EA has, Nintendo has, Sony has a little bit, and there’s others. Maybe it was Ubisoft, I can’t remember. A lot of people have expressed interest, but we’re kind of waiting to wrap up some stuff with the movie, and then we’ll be right on the game.

A Wiiware version might be cool. I wonder how it would play, though? Point-and-click, maybe?
i don't care if the emily game is a cup and a ball on a string, i'd still play the shit out of it.
I think a downloadable point-and-click title would be perfect for this game. Then again, I love point-and-click games in general.
Never actually read any Emily the Strange. Is it anything like Romen Dirge or Jhonen Vasquez?
Sweet!! :)) Melissa
i don't know about anything other than point and click for this game. how else would you do it? madworld style?
I'd say point & click would be ideal. I could even be down with an old school 2D platformer. 3D adventure doesn't feel like a good fit though.
