NYU to Offer Video Game Degrees
Get Your Undergraduate or Graduate Degree in Gaming
by Sarah

As video games become more and more mainstream, it makes sense that institutes of higher learning would want to educate students about the industry. While many colleges are already offering courses in game design, writing, and other aspects of the trade, New York University has become the latest—though probably not the last—to announce a new video game-focused curriculum. Starting next fall, students enrolling in NYU will be able to get their undergraduate and graduate degrees in video game design, research, and development. These courses will be available at the new NYU Games Center, showing that the university is really taking this program seriously.
Honestly, if this had been available seven years ago, I would have strongly considered applying to NYU. It probably would have been motivation enough to get my G.P.A. up to their standards. As someone who chose a college path that was considered risky (I got my BFA in Writing for Film and Television from the University of the Arts in 2005), I can understand the desire to choose a specialized education path post-high school. This is a great opportunity for those seriously looking for a career in the video game industry, and I expect to see more degree plans like this pop up in the future.
