Optional PS3 Update Will Make PSP Minis Playable on Console
And There Goes the Last Remaining Reason to Get a PSPgo
by Sarah

Earlier in the week, we were having a discussion at Gamervision HQ about why anyone would, at this point, want to buy a PSPgo. After all, it’s overpriced, doesn’t allow you to play the games you’ve already bought on UMD unless you pay for them again, and has been slow to offer new titles for download. “PSP Minis!” someone said, which even then sounded like a weak reason to spend $250, especially since you can play Minis on your PSP—provided you have a big enough memory stick. Of course, memory sticks are expensive, so I could understand why 16GB of internal memory would be attractive if you really, really wanted to download a ton of those little games. Now, though, even that reason is moot: with PS3 update 3.15, PSP Minis will be playable on the PS3.
According to the European PlayStation blog, the update will be coming “very soon” and will also be optional. Basically, it will allow PSP Minis to work the same way as PS1 Originals—once you download them, they will be playable on both your PS3 and PSP. If you have already downloaded some Minis, you can re-download them for free if you want to play them on your PlayStation 3. So, I ask once again: can anyone give me a really solid reason to buy a PSPgo at its current price? Anyone?

Will you be able to transfer save game files from your PSPgo to your PS3? That seems to be something that can make it work. As with the PS1 Originals --you can transfer your save game files in-between your PSP and PS3-- you should be able to have the merits of continuing from your latest save point. This would be the one feature that would make it a possibility to still obtain the PSPgo.
However, I do see the issue with what I just said, being that save game files can easily be transferred from one console to the other and this causes the fault of Sony's behemoth schemes to create the ultimate experience with their consoles.
I'm sure this will be in some form of debate between myself and others as news makes its way from gaming sites and the PlayStation blog to the local stores.
