Original Developer Credits Cut From Okami Wii

What, Closing Down the Studio Wasn't Enough?

by Sarah

When Okami originally came out for the PS2 back in 2006, reviewers and fans alike praised not only the game, but developer Clover Studios as well. However, despite the critical success of Okami and several other titles, Capcom decided to shut Clover down in early 2007, acquiring all of their properties.

With Okami’s recently-released Wii port, one might think that the only major difference was the addition of motion-sensitive controls, but there is one more thing: the original credits featuring the Clover staff have been cut from the game’s closing. Naturally, the game’s original director, Hideki Kamiya, found this move “incredibly disappointing”, and who can blame him?

According to Capcom, they had to cut the credits because they contained the Clover logo at the very end, and since Clover wasn’t involved in the Wii port, Capcom felt that they could not leave the logo in there. I guess it would have been too much effort to take out the Clover logo, but leave the names of the people who actually made the damn game to begin with. Hey, Capcom, if you want to shut down a studio that’s making some excellent games for you, that’s your decision. However, leaving the original staff out of the credits of the game they worked so hard on just seems… mean. Yeah, I went there.
