Well, this one kind of took me by surprise. As I was making my way out of the convention hall today to head back to the hotel and do some writing, I happened to see an open DS station. I didn't even look at what booth I was near, but just approached the system to see what game was in the interactive, in case it was something I should get impressions of. What I found was Destineer's Little Red Riding Hood's Zombie BBQ, and with a title like that, how could I possibly walk away?

In this retelling of Little Red Riding Hood, Red is fighting a zombie apocalypse on the way to her grandmother's house, and has also ditched her cloak and is dressed not unlike a porn star. The game is completely controlled by stylus, with the touch screen being used for attacking, defending, and moving, and as Red, you will use various weapons and hand-to-hand combat to destroy wave after wave of zombies.

Not only was the game enjoyable, but it was unlike anything I've played on the DS before--and I've played a lot of DS games. I loved the humor and the revamping of an old fairy tale, and the game doesn't take itself too seriously (with a title like that, how could it?). My only worry was that Zombie BBQ could possibly get a little repetitive after awhile, but I would need to play the whole game to determine that for sure. At any rate, it wasn't a problem while I was playing, and it was a very pleasant way to end the day at PAX.

Little Red Riding Hood's Zombie BBQ will be out in the fourth quarter of 2008, and it is a DS exclusive. I can't wait until I get my hands on a full version of the game, so I can see what else is in store for Red as she attempts to save humanity.
