PlayStation Home Now Has 10 Million Users

Guessing 9 Million Have Only Used it Once

by Sarah

From the start, PlayStation Home was kind of a disaster. We all tried it out last winter when it finally launched, and found it to be, at best, boring, and at worse, uncomfortable (try being a chick and see how many dudes follow you around making inappropriate comments). I imagine that most PS3 owners register for PlayStation Home and try it out at least once, figuring it can’t be as bad as everyone says. And then it is, and they never go back again. Still, once you’ve registered, Sony has got that statistic, and they’ve been adding them up over the past year, apparently not caring how many people actually return. Today, Sony announced that over 10 million people have registered for PlayStation Home, which was undoubtedly helped by the jump in sales after the recent PS3 price drop. That’s ten million PS3 owners who have entered Home’s virtual world, and many who have never returned.

European Home business manager Dan Hill had this to say about Home’s growth:

“PlayStation Home is fast becoming the meeting place of choice between users and developers… Every new game space enhances the overall experience for consumers, offering more variety, more choice and more enjoyment from a PlayStation Home session. The more game spaces there are, the better it gets, and the number of spaces keeps on growing.”

I know there are PS3 owners who genuinely enjoy Home, and get excited every time Sony releases a new gaming-themed location, but I still can’t understand why. I don’t understand why gamers spend any time in there, I don’t understand why they spend real money to have fake furniture in their fake apartments, it’s really a mystery to me. Then again, it’s been about a year since I last entered Home, so maybe I’m missing out on a really good time.

But probably not.

I logged in last year and am still waiting for the mall to download! Afterwards I may go stand in line and wait to go bowling.

    Jack,

The downloads don't take that long. Home won't appeal to everyone but it def. has its positives and is become a solid source of income for Sony. There is a lot of potential yet to be untapped in home and hopefully they do that.
