Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver Announced for DS

Because Nintendo Has Run Out of Pokemans and Colors

by Sarah

Nintendo sent out a press release today announcing two new Pokemon games for the DS: Pokemon HeartGold and Pokemon SoulSilver. Well, they’re not so much new as cheesily-named remakes of Pokemon Gold and Silver, which came out for the Game Boy Color nine years ago, when I actually watched Pokemon and sort of cared about the video games. Since Nintendo loves remaking Pokemon games I can’t really say I’m surprised, and either way they will still sell like hotcakes.

As tempting as it is to make fun of the Pokemon series, both Gold and Silver were well received, and as silly as it sounds, the franchise has produced some pretty solid games. Now a new generation will get to enjoy the classics, while longtime fans can play again with enhanced graphics. I really just wish Nintendo had come up with better names. HeartGold? SoulSilver? That’s painful to even type. Have you really run out of colors, Nintendo? May I suggest Pokemon Hot Pink? Pokemon Flourescent Brown? See? It’s not so hard.

Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver will be out in the spring of 2010. Who’s gonna catch ’em all? Anyone? I’m gonna get me a Jigglypuff.

This is funny because right before I saw this, my cousin was talking to me asking what I thought the next Pokemon game color would be lol

@FemJesse Well they had the FireRed and LeafGreen reboots for Gameboy Advance in 2004. But it's totally plausible for them to do it again for the DS.

Personally, Gold is my favorite Pokemon to date, so I imagine I'll pick one of these up eventually.
