PSP-3000 Confirmed and Detailed
How Many SKUs Can Sony Make?
by Sarah
Among other Sony news to come out of GC 2008 today was the confirmation of yet another PSP model, the PSP-3000. According to Sony, the new model will keep the size and features of the sleek PSP-2000 (which just came out last year), but will have a few tweaks:
- The LCD screen will have a wider color gamut and higher contrast ratio to deliver deeper, more vibrant colors, as well as anti-reflection technology so you can see the screen more clearly when playing outdoors. As you all know, the PSP’s screen is a key strength of the hardware, and this update adds an absolutely dazzling LCD screen to the handheld.
- A built-in microphone allows for Skype calls and multi-player gaming communication directly from the hardware - eliminating the need for attaching a separate headset.
The PSP-3000 will initially be released in a Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters bundle, along with a 4 GB memory stick. According to Sony, the PSP bundles will continue to be $199.99, while the PSP alone will cost $169.99. Like the 160 GB PS3, this is a great deal for those who have not jumped on the Sony bandwagon yet, and after this year, it's going to be even harder to resist.

yawn... no major changes..the bundle is a nice touch though with the 4GB memory duo stick
i love my current PSP but i also love the idea of the higher-quality screen... dang.
I agree with Voyou San. The only new feature that I can actually use is the new glare feature. But, then again, they have screens for that. Hori makes a decent one.
i was hoping for a HD included inside the PSP, new button layout, something really drastic
I'm thinking about trading in my PSP-1000/Phat for this.
@ NickDynmo:
Don't do it! Just flat-out buy the new one if you want it! Use your Phat for hacks and homebrews. I want to get a Phat again. I wish I never traded it in of, get this, a Zune. Never will I make a mistake like that again.
I love my Zune*, but I'd never trade in my PSP for one. :( Bad move, QMarc!
*I effing can't STAND the software, but I've no gripes with the hardware.
@QMarc
That's my plan. I still have my Phat. Almost got a slim until this was announced.
@NickD:
I have a PSP again. I got the Daxter edition almost a year ago already. Better times have been had. You can't find some of the games I used to have.
Good thing it doesn't have a second analog stick, that would be...wait, that would be awesome.
So if I were to buy a PSP...I shouldn't be getting a slim?
