PSP Firmware Update 5.0 in Action

Video Demo of the New PSP PlayStation Store

by Sarah

As we reported yesterday, PSP firmware update 5.0 is on the way, and it will bring the PlayStation Store straight to the handheld system so that gamers no longer need to go through the PS3 to download games for the PSP. This means that if you’ve got your PSP hooked up to a WiFi connection, you’re free to download all the games, demos, and trailers your memory stick will allow. The PlayStation Blog has a video demo of the new store and how to use it, so check it out below.

There’s no official date for this update at the moment, but according to Sony it is “coming soon”, so any day (or week, or month) now. Assuming that this works like it’s supposed to, I think it will be pretty neat not to have to be synced up to my PS3 to download games on my PSP. We’ll keep you updated and let you know when 5.0 actually becomes available.
