Resident Evil: Outbreak and Monster Hunter Online Service Ends
Say Good-bye After the New Year
by Sarah
It was announced today that the online service for PS2 titles Resident Evil: Outbreak and Monster Hunter will end on December 31 of this year. After three years of service, Capcom stated that the current host for the games is quitting the business entirely.
Both of the Capcom games do still have single-player modes to keep them from being entirely obsolete, but the online service was a key selling point for the titles, so I don’t see them having much future value. Sadly, Capcom has added that there is no chance of the games being hosted by another company, so this is the last month they can be played online.
My initial though upon reading this was, "People still play these games online?" I honestly wasn’t even aware that the service still existed. Still, it sucks for the people out there who enjoy Resident Evil: Outbreak and Monster Hunter. There may not be a lot of gamers still playing PS2 games online, but I’m sure there will be a few people who are disappointed by the news. You’ve still got the rest of the month, guys, so get your zombie-killing in while you can.
