Rumor: Neversoft Taken Off Tony Hawk Games?

Couldn't Hurt...

by Sarah

The once-glorious Tony Hawk series has been getting a lot of criticism in recent years, with Activision churning out sequel after mediocre sequel on a yearly basis. With EA’s Skate now firmly dominating the skateboarding genre, it looks like the Tony Hawk games need to make some changes. Activision previously announced that there would be no next-gen installment in the franchise for the first time in ten years, and now it looks like Neversoft Entertainment is being taken off the series entirely.

Neversoft, which has been developing the Tony Hawk series since the first game came out for the PS1 in 1999, is apparently now focusing completely on the Guitar Hero franchise, according to Gamernode. According to rumors floating around the nets, a studio called Robomodo, made up of some former EA Chicago employees, is working on the next Tony Hawk game.

This could be good news, since the Tony Hawk series is in some desperate need of a change if it wants to survive. I’m not sure what Robomodo can do to make people want to buy their game over Skate, but it’s not like the Tony Hawk games can get much worse. On the other hand, I’m not too keen on Neversoft helping Activision run Guitar Hero straight into the ground like they did with Hawk. Of course, that’s probably inevitable at this point in time.
