ScummVM Emulation Engine Comes to iPhone

Finally, it Does Something Worth the Cost!

by Sarah

Around the office, we have a name for people who like to whip out their iPhones and show them off (like Joe and Sean tend to do). We call them iHoles. I know people tend to get obsessed with any shiny new gadget that comes out, but I’ve never understood the need to pay hundreds of dollars for a phone. Until now.

ScummVM, the emulation engine used to play those old LucasArts and Sierra point-and-click adventure games that I go so crazy over (and so do you, admit it), is now fully functional on the iPhone. In fact, the iPhone’s touch screen makes it an absolutely perfect fit for these games.

Games fully supported by the engine include both Indiana Jones games, Gobliiins, the first two Monkey Island games, Sam & Max Hit the Road, Day of the Tentacle, Zak McKraken and the Alien Mindbenders, and Maniac Mansion. These are some of the greatest games of all time, and I now really envy all of those iHoles I used to make fun of. Suddenly, I seriously need an iPhone.

Space Quest! Woohoo! For the price of a 360 I can play Space Quest on the road! Gotta love the "lick" command.

Is this considered home brew? Aka, is Apple going to shut it down?
