Super Smash Bros. Brawl Written By FFVII Scribe

The Jigglypuff Death Scene is Going to Have Everyone in Tears

by Sarah

As much as I love Nintendo, I’ve never been much of a Smash Bros. fan. I couldn’t get into the original on Nintendo 64, and I never played Melee on the Gamecube. While everyone else has been going crazy in anticipation for this game, I haven’t been holding my breath.

However, when you mention “Final Fantasy” and “Smash Bros.” in the same sentence, you know I’m paying attention. So when I heard that the storyline for Brawl was written by Kazushige Nojima, the scenario writer for Final Fantasy VII, I was suddenly very interested. There’s no denying that the man knows how to weave a tale; in addition to the memorable storyline from FFVII, he also wrote for Final Fantasy X and the Kingdom Hearts series.

All that's missing are Link and Solid Snake.

I’m curious to see what kind of tone the usually silly Smash Bros. game will take. Not having played the previous two installments in the series, I don’t know what kind of plots the games have had in the past. Super Smash Bros. Brawl, though, could prove to have the deepest and most serious plot yet. Especially when Wario drops from the sky and plunges a sword into a praying Jigglypuff… oops, spoiler alert!

really should know it by now anyway. ;) And wow, I never thought an actual storyline was necessary in these games... I just want to beat the crap out of Yoshi. But still, it might be interesting. Oh, and Melee was a lot better than the N64 game.

I was planning to give the series another shot anyway, since I can't really base my feelings on playing the original once like ten years ago. But this makes it even more likely that I will at least rent Brawl.

Yeah... I guess it hadn't occurred to me that someone has to actually write Smash Bros...

It's like knowing that there are writers listed at the end credits on "reality" show...

Or fishing shows, for that matter. That blows my mind.

Oh, and Sarah - you can probably pick up Melee really cheap now, and I'd advise you to do so because it's a really fun game. Much more polished and challenging than the original.
