Tetsuya Nomura on Kingdom Hearts III: Almost Time…

...To Start Thinking About it

by Sarah

Ever since Kingdom Hearts II came out in 2006, I have been anxiously awaiting news of the next true game in the series. Yeah, I know Kingdom Hearts: Ridiculous Title/Meaningless Numbers is hitting the DS later this summer, but that’s just not going to cut it. Birth by Sleep for the PSP might be all right, but it’s not what I want. Where the hell is my goddamn next-gen Kingdom Hearts III? Legendary Square Enix designer Tetsuya Nomura has some answers, but they’re not really the answers I want.

In an interview with Kingdom Hearts Insider, Nomura was asked about Kingdom Hearts III. His response was a bit disheartening:

Who knows? I already have ideas for the next installment. But since Birth by Sleep isn’t even out yet, I don’t have to think about it until awhile from now. Recently everyone kepts [sic] asking me when I’m planning on coming out with KH3. Even though I’m currently busy with Final Fantasy versus XIII, I’m also thinking that it’s almost time to start thinking about it seriously. Though it’s entirely possible that the next game in the series won’t be KH3.

So yeah, to summarize: Square Enix is almost ready to start thinking about Kingdom Hearts III, which means that no work has actually been done on the game. Since KH and KHII came out four years apart, I was hoping the trend would continue, putting it at a 2010 release. Now it looks like KHIII may not even come out this generation. I’m not too excited for 358/2 Days, so Birth by Sleep better be freaking amazing to make me forget which game I actually want to be playing.

I guess I can almost start getting ready to think about wondering whether or not I will or won't have the time to maybe care.

Sean, you forgot a "perhaps" in there...

"[...] getting ready to perhaps think about [...]" sounds a lot better, IMHO.

SE are starting to act like they have the track record of, say, Blizzard and thus the ability to just release sequels to their games of 5 years. Shit is wack!
