Listen. I’m not going to sit here and lie to you about liking my Xbox Live Avatar to have cool shit (just check out my Left 4 Dead 2 Depeche Mode shirt and health pack next time you’re online), but I’ll be damned if I’m going to pay real money for fake items for a fake person that doesn’t affect the games I play in any way. Unless it’s something really, really awesome, like a chocobo from the Final Fantasy series. Wait, what’s that? Oh, Avatars are getting chocobo friends to hang out with, but they’re going to be free. I’ll wark to that.

Thanks to some avid Twitter users and a Microsoft promotion, Xbox Live users can now register to get a code for a free downloadable chocobo. The codes will be sent out in December, and I think this is pretty awesome. Do you hear that, publishers? Hopefully more will follow this trend of free Avatar gear, because quite frankly, paying for that kind of stuff is a little silly. Oh yeah, I’m gonna be all self-righteous about it until some pay Final Fantasy stuff comes out and I become the world’s biggest hypocrite.
