Tomb Raider: Underworld DLC Coming January 21?

If GameStop Has Anything to Say About It

by Sarah

Say what you want about GameStop, they are good at one thing: revealing release dates for games before they are officially announced. It’s happened before, and now it may be happening again—only this time, the date in question is for Tomb Raider: Underworld DLC, not an actual game. According to GameStop’s website, the Tomb Raider: Underworld Expansion Token Pack will ship on January 21, which usually implies that it will be in stores the following day. Since the Token Pack contains two Xbox Live Marketplace cards, it appears that there will actually be two sets of DLC with a combined total of twenty bucks. Interesting!

Okay, no, maybe it’s not that interesting. As I reported this weekend, sales for the latest game in the Tomb Raider franchise were disappointing and led to some layoffs over at Eidos. While the game was okay, I personally wouldn’t pay $20 for DLC. In fact, I really have to wonder how many of the 1.5 million people who bought the game are actually going to download the extra content. I also wonder if DLC sales are going to have a significant impact on the future of Lara Croft, considering that Eidos is already looking to make her over. Keep in mind that this date hasn’t actually been confirmed by Eidos yet, before you go getting your hopes up and spending your last $20 at GameStop pre-ordering the Token Pack.

Underworld was an o.k. game, but not enough for anyone to spend an extra 20 bucks for. As far as I look at it, Eidos should be paying us 20 bucks just for playing the game.
