Trine on XBLA "Speculation"?

Confusing and Possibly Disappointing News

by Sarah

At E3 earlier this month, Atlus announced that they would be publishing Trine on the Xbox Live Arcade. The downloadable game, which will be published by other companies on the PC and PSN, has been getting a lot of buzz; I personally enjoyed it a lot, and have been looking forward to downloading it on the 360. It now appears that this version of the game isn’t written in stone, according to Trine developer Frozenbyte.

On the Frozenbyte forum, one developer had this to say in response to queries about the 360 version of the game:

The XBLA version and its features is just speculation at this point. I can say that in all honesty, as developers, we would love as many people as possible to be able to play our games and therefore I hope Trine will eventually find its way to XBLA too. We are not really looking to take sides in the console wars, we just want people to play our games - obviously more platforms means more money but it also means that everybody could play the game on their favorite console.

That said, the fact is that the PSN and PC versions will be released a lot earlier than any possible other versions, and the PSN and PC versions are what we are focusing on right now.

Furthermore, another Frozenbyte developer went on to imply that the fact that Atlus was publishing Trine on XBLA was made up by, well, the internet. How does that explain the fact that Atlus was giving demos of Trine at their booth during E3? I don’t know, since the publisher is refusing to comment on the matter.

Honestly, I don’t understand what is going on with this game, but I just want to be able to play Trine on the 360. I guess I could always get it on the PSN, but I was looking forward to some online co-op on my 360 (which, again, is a feature that may or may not exist). We’ll keep an eye on this story and see if it all gets sorted out.
